Even when they are caught they just easily acknowledge the client or directly confront them.
The truth (especially for those having an existential crisis) won't be found by simple and silent observation. The truth is so hazy, hidden and out of reach for the clients that it must be brought out of them. The detectives push the client with the overt "spying" until the truth bursts to the surface (Ex. Albert's parent's apartment scene). That's how the detectives work (they're not really detectives, more like proactive field psychologists).

"I Heart Huckabees” may lose a lot of people early on."

I think that's the point. Existential breakdowns are not linear, easy to follow and clean. They are a mess of why's, questions and confusion that spirals the existentialist down a rabbit hole of disorientation from the normal flow of reality. The film is trying to mirror that chaos. I think.

"Wahlberg, meanwhile, shows why he has become a coveted actor"

Gotta praise Wahlberg on his role. Really surprised me on this one because I never really took him seriously as an actor. He perfectly tip toes the line between a pretentious liberal ranter and a man who feels starkly cut off from everyone else. In fact, it is his alienation that results in the overbearing personality that drove his wife and daughter away. He so clearly sees the world and its problems, (problems that everyone glosses over and ignores) and the lack of empathy or consideration over these problems from others leads him to frustration and despair.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
